support

Slanted Theatre is dedicated to creating indie theatre in Sydney, focusing on diverse stories and community engagement. With rising production costs, we are seeking support to help cover essential expenses such as venue hire, set design, costumes, props, and lighting. Our artists work under a profit-sharing model, ensuring fair compensation for their contributions.

Why Support Slanted

Slanted Theatre is a volunteer-run collective supporting Asian-identifying artists to create new work, develop skills, and build creative confidence in a culturally safe environment.

Independent theatre is expensive to make, and development-led work is rarely fully funded. Your support helps us keep opportunities accessible, sustainable, and artist-centred – without passing costs onto the people already donating their labour and creativity.

How We Work Financially

Slanted operates on a mixed model, depending on the type of project:

  • Independent productions operate under a profit-share model, with any surplus returned directly to the creative team.
  • Showcases and development events are low-barrier opportunities that help cover essential running costs and are not profit-share projects.

This approach allows us to support artists consistently while remaining realistic about capacity and resources.

What Your Support Makes Possible

Your contribution helps cover the essential costs of independent, artist-led work, including:

  • venue hire and rehearsal space
  • design, props, and technical needs
  • insurance, licensing, and marketing
  • documentation and archiving
  • website and administrative costs

Ways to Support

There are several ways to support Slanted, depending on your capacity:

  • One-off donations
  • Monthly contributions
  • In-kind support (skills, services, or resources)
  • Advocacy – attending shows, sharing our work, and recommending us to others
