Who We Are
Slanted Theatre is a volunteer-run, cross-city theatre collective supporting Asian-identifying artists to create, experiment, and connect. Founded in 2021, Slanted exists to make space for Asian stories, Asian creatives, and Asian leadership in an industry where these voices have historically been underrepresented or constrained.
We work across cities and communities, supporting artists at every stage of their practice – from first-time makers to those returning after time away or reimagining their creative identity.
Why We Exist
Slanted was created because many of us had no mentors, no clear roadmap, and no space to grow without comparison or gatekeeping.
We prioritise connection, courage, and curiosity over scale or prestige. We believe artists learn by doing – directing because the opportunity did not exist, producing because the story mattered, and trying because learning happens through action.
Our measure of success is not ticket sales or polish, but whether artists leave more confident in their voice than when they arrived.
How We Work
Slanted’s work is grounded in care, clarity, shared responsibility, and community.
We create culturally safe, artist-led environments where experimentation is encouraged, and perfection is not expected. Our projects move at a sustainable pace, shaped by the capacity of the people involved rather than external pressure to scale or produce continuously.
We value process as much as outcome and prioritise transparent communication, mutual respect, and care-led collaboration across all projects.
Leadership & Collective
Slanted is led by Founder and Artistic Director Tiffany Wong, alongside a rotating collective of artists and producers.
Current team for Horsing Around 2026 is:
Associate Producers – Natalie Low, Josephine Lee & Tiffany Wong
Assistant Producers – Trent Foo, Alexandra Gould-Rocha, Susan Huang & Sabrina Lee
Recent team for Slanted Scribbles 2025: Shane Woon, Julia Faragher, Josephine Lee & Tiffany Wong.
Contributors join projects when they have capacity, pause when life or work becomes full, and return when timing allows. This shared-leadership model protects against burnout and allows Slanted to remain responsive, flexible, and community-driven while maintaining consistency across its work.
Leadership roles shift depending on project needs, with contributors holding projects in partnership to ensure alignment with Slanted’s values and approach.
Our Impact
Since 2021, Slanted Theatre has collaborated with over 200 Asian-identifying artists across productions, developments, and open-access showcase events.
Our work spans independent productions, new writing, and recurring Showcases across Sydney, Parramatta, and Naarm (Melbourne), in partnership with organisations including the National Theatre of Parramatta and Darebin Arts.
In 2022, Slanted was recognised as a Champion of the AA22 (Asian Australian) List, acknowledging our contribution to representation and cultural leadership within the sector.
